Every year I aim to watch at least 100 narrative movies – new releases, classics, foreign films – whatever I can get my hands on. In 2019, I missed the mark by exactly one film, hitting number 99 late into the evening on December 31st…
In any case, I thought I’d share my list here for those interested. At the end, I also broke down my favorite new films from 2019, and other standouts from previous years.
Keep in mind there are a ton of current 2019 movies I haven’t yet gotten around to. So this is by no means an exhaustive list… Just what I saw over the past 12 months and a handful of my personal (and highly subjective) favorites.

January 26, 2020 at 3:37 pmI saw:
“Ford v. Ferrari”
“1917”
Both are excellent and either one can win the Oscar.
“Parasite “- well made, but something is amiss in the whole story.
“The Lighthouse” – I wanted to get out after 20 minutes. What a waste. No wonder it was never nominated for a best film in the major awards.

January 21, 2020 at 2:51 pmThe Lighthouse was a movie I really liked, just the way it was told and the way it was filmed – incredible.
The Joker was a lot better than I expected and a visual gem.
Avengers Endgame was a great end to the whole arch, and even though a lot of it is greenscreen, it mostly looks great and the colors are amazing on the big screen.
Bohemian Rhapsody was great as well, captured the decades very well, but I would´ve liked to see sacha baron cohen in the leading role
I finally saw A quiet Place (2018) and really liked it. Great atmosphere, interesting ideas and hauting setting.
